Celebration at the Station to Celebrate the United States’ 250th Anniversary
The Kansas City Symphony's 22nd Celebration at the Station, presented by Bank of America, returns to Union Station's South Plaza and the National WWI Museum's North Lawn on Sunday, May 24th.
Freedom Festivities: The event kicks off at 5pm with 20+ food trucks, live pre-concert entertainment, vendors, and veteran services at Veterans Place. At 8pm, Guest Conductor Stuart Chafetz leads the Symphony in a concert featuring guest performer Aubrey Logan and music by John Williams, Scott Joplin, George Gershwin, and Florence Price. There will also be an Armed Forces Salute, the 1812 Overture with live cannons, and a fireworks finale over Union Station. Check out the full itinerary for times and details.
What to Know: Admission is free, and guests are encouraged to bring folding chairs or blankets as no seating is provided. No alcohol, glass containers, or pets allowed. Ride the KC Streetcar directly to Union Station, or find paid parking at Union Station's West Yards garage and surrounding lots. Can't make it? Stream the concert live on Kansas City PBS, Channel 19.1.

Opening
Afterword Tavern & Shelves to Reopen at a New Location
After closing its doors at 1834 Grand Blvd in January, Afterword Tavern & Shelves will reopen in Midtown in the former Brewer’s Corner space.
A New Page: The new location will be at 3105 Gillham Road in the heart of Midtown. The old Crossroads location occupied 1,200 square feet, while the new location will span nearly 4,000.
8 Years Reading: Afterword was started in 2018 by Christian Overgaard and Luke Pitz as a community-focused, literary-themed cocktail bar. It operated there until January 2026, when the closure was announced. A potential new location was teased at that point.
An exact opening date is TBD, but is expected this summer. Follow along on their Instagram page for updates!

Opening

Spring Sips: The cozy space will offer a menu of specialty coffee, espresso, and baked goods from Bloom Baking Co. Spring seasonal offerings include a Cherry Cola Float (cola topped with espresso and house cherry cold foam), a Spring Fling (latte or matcha with housemade blueberry almond syrup and milk), and a Spring Stallion (cold brew with housemade tamarind brown sugar syrup and toasted coconut cold foam).
