U.S. Census Bureau Reveals Just How Fast the Kansas City Metro is Growing

Last week, the U.S. Census Bureau released the latest population numbers for cities and towns across the country, and the KC metro recorded record growth.

  • Off the Charts: Nearly every city in the Kansas City metro recorded growth since April of 2020. The top three in terms of average population growth were Spring Hill, KS (+26.43%), North Kansas City, MO (+26.09%), and Parkville, MO (+24.88%).

  • Let’s Grow: The city of Kansas City, MO grew 1.56% to an estimated population of 516,032, making it the 42nd most-populous city in the U.S. On the flip side, the only metro cities that saw a decline in population since 2020 were Independence, MO, Raytown, MO, Prairie Village, KS, and Roeland Park, KS.

Museum of BBQ & Boulevard Collaborate on Limited-Edition Beer

Bottoms up! Boulevard Brewing Co. has teamed up with the new Museum of BBQ to create the MO’ BBQ Barrel-Aged Smoked Quad.

  • Smoke ‘n Brew: The is the latest release in Boulevard’s Brewhouse One series; an 11.8% ABV Belgian-style quad infused with smoked malt and a blend of barbecue-inspired ingredients. Museum of BBQ founder Jonathan Bender lent his hand in the creation of this Kansas City.

  • City of ‘Que: It’s hard to think about Kansas City without BBQ coming to mind, and Boulevard recognizes this legacy with their Brewhouse One Series. Boulevard is one of the largest specialty beer brewers in the Midwest, and the Museum of BBQ is the world’s first museum dedicated to barbecue. Talk about a dream team!

Boulevard will host a MO’ BBQ Release Party this Thursday, May 22nd at the Tours & Rec Center.

  • 🏝️ Almost 5 O’clock: The highly-anticipated Margaritaville Hotel in KCK will open sometime in June. The resort will feature 228 rooms, indoor & outdoor pools, onsite restaurants, and a drop-down NinjaCross obstacle course.

  • ⚫️ In a Blackout: The state of Kansas will roll out a new blackout license plate beginning July 1st. There will be a one-time plate fee of $40, and an annual royalty fee of $50.

  • 👋 ‘Que You Later: One of Kansas City’s oldest BBQ joints, Danny Edwards Blvd BBQ, will close at the end of May. Owners Joel and Susan Bremer hope to continue selling from a food truck, with another possible brick-and-mortar int he future.

  •  🍅 Tomato, Tomato: After nearly two years of being closed, You Say Tomato will reopen to the public on June 4th at 2801 Holmes St. in midtown KCMO.

  • 🛸 Aliens in KC: According to some folks on X, a mysterious upcoming Steven Spielberg UFO movie is set to take place in Kansas City. The only catch? It’s not being filmed in Kansas City.
