Authentic Vietnamese Coffee Shop Opens in the Northland
Côi Nguôn: Origin softly opened its doors on Saturday, bringing authentic Vietnamese coffee to Kansas City’s Northland.
Softly Sipping: Owner Nhung Hoang is filling a need for beloved Vietnamese coffee north of the river and providing a space for the Vietnamese community to gather. Côi Nguôn: Origin is celebrating its soft opening through May 29th, with a grand opening celebration scheduled for Sunday, June 1st.
Taste of Vietnam: Hoang says each barista will speak Vietnamese as well as English. In addition to coffee, the full menu will feature Vietnamese pastries like egg tarts and custard buns.
Côi Nguôn: Origin is located at 7711 N Oak Trafficway, Suite A and is open 9am-2pm this week.

Development
$12M Retail Development Coming to Downtown Mission
A $12M retail development is coming to the vacant Wild Oats building at 5101 Johnson Drive in downtown Mission.
New Life: Last week, the Mission City Council approved a financing plan to redevelop the Wild Oats grocery store which closed in 2007. The new development will feature two tenants split between the 22,000-square-foot building.
Mission to Brew: Although tenants have not been announced, renderings from Slaggie Architects show a brewery and taproom occupying the larger portion of the building. A reminder that Iowa-based Big Grove Brewery announced it will open a new location on the “suburban Kansas side of the metro”. Could it be here?
Construction is expected to begin in May 2026 with completion May 2027.
