Byrd’s Pecans started in 1964 as a pecan farm located south of Kansas City and in 2014, the granddaughter of the original owners opened Byrd’s Pecan Delights. Sourcing local products along with using pecans from their 600-acre farm, they serve breakfast all day, sandwiches, homemade ice cream, and (of course) pecan pies. Today, hundreds of short-term rentals will disappear from their respective apps as KC’s recent ordinance goes into effect.

  • Solving Problems: In an effort to address years of complaints about noise and out-of-state investors, a recent ordinance in Kansas City, MO mandates registration and compliance for short-term rentals.

  • New Problems: The move has created a fair amount of backlash from property owners who set their properties up as short-term rentals and now find themselves as one of the nearly 500 property owners left out in the cold.

  • The Goal: Of course, the goal of the ordinance was that visitors would be able to experience a quieter and more community-friendly environment in residential neighborhoods, while hosts would be required to follow new safety and reporting guidelines.

Hosts can still apply to operate a short-term rental, but there are some new hoops they will have to jump through to obtain a permit. To read more about the ordinance, check out this article from the KC Star.

Bally’s Casino KC

North Kansas City’s Bally Casino will reopen today after a portion was closed for renovations for much of the year.

The casino is open 24 hours, and the newly renovated kitchen area will be open daily from 6 am-12 am. If you’re paying attention, that means you could head there right now.

Opening

Pizza, Beer, and Patio

KC Daily

City Barrel Brewery plans to open City Barrel Pizza + Patio in place of the former staple where Brookside and Waldo met, Bier Station.

  • So Long, Bier Station: After shutting its doors at the start of 2023, Bier Station, the former taproom and beer shop, left a major hole for neighbors who desired a great patio to enjoy a good beer.

  • Enter: City Barrel: Since City Barrel acquired the property, they have gotten busy. After getting initial approval for plans, the brewery has knocked down walls to expand the kitchen, expanded the patio, and added a pizza oven.

  • Beer+Pizza=Heaven: The new restaurant will aim to maintain the fun vibe of the Bier station with board games and arcade machines. This time, however, patrons can expect a full menu focused on square pies with a focaccia-style crust, Italian deli-style sandwiches, and elevated versions of classic dishes.

No timetable has been set for the opening other than that City Barrel would like to be open by this fall. You can visit City Barrel Brewery + Kitchen in the Crossroads every day of the week.
