Height Restriction Eliminated for Former Nordstrom Site on the Plaza

The Village Collection

The Kansas City City Council has approved a major revision to zoning at the Country Club Plaza, allowing a high-rise development on the vacant Nordstrom site.

  • In the Zone: The ordinance would double how high a tower can be built, allowing a high-rise to reach 275 feet at 4720 Jefferson St. Currently, buildings must be built between 45 and 130 feet as a part of the Plaza Bowl Overlay District which was passed in 2019.

  • A New Future: The zoning code would allow first-floor office space without a permit. It has received praise from Mayor Quinton Lucas, who co-sponsored the legislation, as well as from Plaza ownership group Gillon Property Group.

No specific building or tenant has been proposed…yet.
