The West Bottoms Backyard Barbeque is Happening This Weekend

KC Daily

Where there’s smoke, there’s BBQ. The West Bottoms Backyard Barbeque, the Heritage Days signature event, takes over Liberty Lot at 1447 Liberty St. this Friday and Saturday, May 15-16.

  • Smokin’ Meats: The event features three separate KCBS-sanctioned contests: Friday night's One-Meat Showdown puts pork ribs center stage with two separate turn-ins at 6pm and 7:30pm. Saturday's Backyard BBQ contest features chicken and ribs, and teams can enter one or all three contests. Entry fees are $50 for Friday and $100 for Saturday, with spaces limited to 40 teams each day.

  • More Than Just BBQ: The 12th Annual Heritage Days fills the West Bottoms with Plein Air live outdoor painting, the Strawberry Swing indie craft fair, carriage and pedicab rides, and a beer garden from Stockyards Brewing Co. It's a full weekend in one of KC's most historic neighborhoods.

The College Baseball Hall of Fame to Open in Overland Park in June

Populous/College Baseball Hall of Fame

The first-ever permanent location for the College Baseball Hall of Fame is set to open in Overland Park this June.

  • Love of the Game: The $12 million, 9,000-square-foot facility will be located inside the Museum at Prairiefire in Overland Park. The project was first announced in January 2024 and has received funding from the State of Kansas, the Willard and Pat Walker Charitable Foundation, and even Patrick Mahomes.

  • What's Inside: The Hall of Fame will feature a variety of interactive experiences. Visitors enter through a clubhouse theater, walk the digital Tunnel of Dreams, and arrive at a 360-degree touchscreen Hall of Fame spotlighting all 196 inductees since 2006. Virtual batting bays from Home Run Dugout let visitors simulate hitting a homer in an MLB stadium, and Sports Radio 810 WHB will operate a broadcast studio inside.

An exact opening date is yet to be announced, and the Hall of Fame will have the same hours as the museum.
