Kansas City Pizza Guide

KC Daily’s Guide to Pizza in Kansas City 🍕

Kansas City has never really had a reputation as a “good pizza” city, but a few spots are looking to change that. We’ve put together a list of our favorite places across the metro that offer a variety of different styles of ‘za. SPOILER: in honor of our cross-state rivalry, St. Louis-style is NOT included.

📍12925 S US Highway 71 + 415 Westport Road

Since its inception in 2014, Providence has been one of the premier names in pizza around Kansas City. Founded by brothers from Providence, they focus on “no crust left behind”; meaning, they offer New York-style, Detroit-style, Sicilian-style, and Grandma-style. And the best part? They’re all good.

📍1815 Wyandotte St. + 7901 Santa Fe Dr.

Buffalo State Pizza Co. is built around the idea of bringing people together over a slice of pizza. A REALLY BIG slice of pizza. With locations in downtown Overland Park and the Crossroads, Buffalo State is a great spot to grab a slice, a cold beer, and take in some live music with friends. No frills, no fuss.

📍7433 Broadway St. + 8051 W. 160th St. (express)

This staple located in the heart of Waldo serves as the classic neighborhood pizza joint reminding you where you spent your Friday nights growing up. Neon signs, a salad bar, tabletop pizza stands, and a gumball machine greeting you at the front door; this is the perfect place to bring your hungry family. A large menu is sure to please all pizza lovers, but we can’t get enough of the Baked Potato on thin crust.

📍2876 W 47th Ave.

We originally discovered 1889 when we went to eat at Joe’s and the line was wrapped around the building, so we walked next door and found our favorite Neapolitan-style pizza in the city. A trendy space that is centered by their beautiful hammered gold wood-burning pizza oven. The Honey Bee is one of our favorite pies in the city, regardless of style.

After originally starting Pizza Tascio in St. Joseph, Erik Borger (also of Il Lazzerone) has brought his New York-style pizzeria to the metro and hasn’t looked back. Now with 6 locations across the KC metro, Pizza Tascio builds its pies using the finest ingredients to bring east-coast pizza tradition to the midwest.

We know Chicago-style deep-dish pizza can be polarizing, but no best-of list would be complete without it. Frankly, there aren’t a ton of places in the metro offering authentic Chicago-style, but of those that do our pick is Third Coast. Locally owned and operated, the folks at Third Coast have taken the time to learn the painstaking process of making a delicious deep-dish pie. It’s worth the longer wait!

📍10328 Blue Ridge Blvd

This is the best pizza place that you’ve (probably) never heard of. This hole-in-the-wall shop in south KCMO serves up hand-tossed pizza, gourmet calzones, and fresh wings. Our pick is the appropriately named “The Boss” which is their take on the Supreme loaded with multiple meats and veggies.
