Black & Veatch Plans to Invest $1B+ Into Overland Park

Black and Veatch

Global engineering firm Black & Veatch has released plans for a $1.1B campus in Overland Park.

  • Billion with a B: The plans for a new campus at its current site at 112th and Lamar would feature more than a new building for its 2,200 local employees. It would also add 233,00 square feet of office space, 550,000 square feet of retail and commercial, 1,884 residential units and a 160-room hotel.

  • Home in OP: Black & Veatch will seek $247M in local incentives for the 78 acre district being called the Overland Park Plaza II. The Overland Park Finance, Administration and Economic Development Committee will review the plan today, and pending approval, construction would begin in 2026.

Developers expect that if the plan is approved in it’s entirety, final completion wouldn’t be until 2038.

Celebration at the Station Returns To Union Station This Sunday

KC Parks & Recreation

Kansas City’s favorite Memorial Day celebration, Bank of America Celebration at the Station, returns this Sunday, May 25th.

  • Memorial Magic: The annual event takes place at the South Plaza of Union Station Kansas City and the North Lawn of the National WWI Museum and Memorial from 5-10:30pm on Sunday. The event is capitalized by a free concert from the Kansas City Symphony at 8pm, followed by a fireworks display at 9:30pm.

  • For the People: Celebration at the Station is the largest free Memorial Day weekend concert in the Midwest, regularly drawing crowds of 50,000 people. Although the event is free, parking at most lots near Union Station is $20 (although street parking along the streetcar route is encouraged).

Martin City Brewing Company Filling Vacant Spot in the Crossroads

City Club Crossroads

Martin City Brewing Company is set to bring new life to a long-vacant space along Kansas City's streetcar line in the Crossroads.

  • At a Crossroads: Owner Matt Moore plans to open a fast-casual eatery at 1989 Main St. in the City Club Apartments complex, featuring the brewery's signature pizzas, burgers, and sandwiches. The location boasts a rooftop deck and aligns with Moore's vision to expand into urban areas, building on the brand's success in the south side of the metro.

  • Prime Location Pizza: The space, unoccupied since its construction nearly five years ago, was initially slated to house two concepts called Small Axe and Afi by chef Howard Hanna, which never materialized due to legal complications. MCBC is also opening a new location in the South Plaza neighborhood (4950 Main St.) in June.
