Kansas City Museum to Host Annual Derby Party

Kansas City Museum

On Saturday, May 4th, the Kansas City Museum will host their 9th annual Derby Party.

  • Big Hats and Big Checks: The Derby Party fundraiser aims to connect Kansas City with the pageantry of the Kentucky Derby. The afternoon will be filled with Southern food and drink, music, dancing, and of course horse racing! All proceeds support the museum’s education and public programs.

  • History on Display: The Kansas City Museum is the premier source for the story of Kansas City and its people. The museum is housed in the beautiful former estate of lumber baron R.A. Long. There are multiple exhibits on display, guided tours educational programs, and even a classic soda fountain.

A Mushroom Butcher Shop and Deli is Coming to 39th St.

Mushroom Culture

Yes, you read that right. Mushroom Culture is a vegetarian “butcher shop” coming to 1803 W 39th St in Kansas City.

  • Different Cuts: Local farmer Bryan Alley has spent the last four years growing mushrooms and supplying local restaurants. Now it’s time for him to have his own space. He will offer a selection of lesser-known varieties of mushrooms in a wide arrow of offerings. Mushroom Culture will offer mushroom cuts, soups, salads, and even Candy Cap mushroom ice cream.

  • Open Your Mind:but not like that. Alley wants to change your mind about what a mushroom tastes like and what it can be. A variety of mushrooms have meat-like flavors that will change how you view fungi. I.e. mushrooms are much more than a pizza topping!

Mushroom Culture aims to be open at some point this summer, but until then follow their Instagram for updates.
