Plans Approved for Buc-ee’s in Wyandotte County

Bucc-ee’s

Wyandotte County Commissioners recently approved development plans for a Buc-ee’s travel center near the Kansas Speedway in Wyandotte County.

  • Buc-ee’s Boost: The plans include a 74,000-square-foot travel center to the northwest of the intersection of I-435 and I-70. Buc-ee’s expects to hire 175 full-time employees with an average starting pay between $17-$20 an hour plus benefits.

  • Follow the Beaver: Buc-ee’s has built a cult-like following across the country for its enormous travel centers. The upcoming WYCO location will be one of the company’s largest, featuring 120 gas pumps and 12 EV charging stations. Officials expect the center to welcome over 4 million guests per year.

Construction is slated to begin May 1st, 2025, and will be completed within 24 months of beginning.

A New Boutique Hotel Could Land in the River Market

LoopNet

The new owners of a four-story River Market building may convert the space into a boutique hotel.

  • Parting Ways: The potential development is possible in part due to an announcement that Confluence, a current tenant of the building at 417 Delaware St., would relocate. The Des Moines-based landscape architecture firm has called the building home for over 18 years and will now assist the new owners in the building’s evolution.

  • Local Stays: Developers are partnered with local architect group Populous to turn the building into a 52-room boutique hotel that will feature a first-floor cocktail bar and an Italian-themed restaurant. The hotel’s branding has not been determined.

Construction is expected to begin during the first quarter of 2025 and be completed before the 2026 World Cup.
