Just How Safe are Drivers in Kansas City?

KC Daily

Allstate recently released its 2025 America’s Best Drivers Report®, and Kansas City drivers have some work to do.

  • Buckle Up: According to the report, Kansas City ranked No. 101 out of 200 cities. This was a major dip from 2015, when KC ranked No. 17. The study found that drivers in Kansas City go 8.98 years between collisions, with drivers being 17.5% more likely to be in a collision than the national average.

  • Slow Pace, Fast Drivers: The Midwest is often noted for its slower pace of life than the coasts, but according to this report, the pace of the drivers hasn’t followed suit over the last 10 years. But hey, at least we’re safer than St. Louis, which ranked No. 175.

Kansas City Northern Railroad Eyes Expansion

Kansas City Northern Railroad

Kansas City’s favorite miniature railroad is eyeing a $1.4 million expansion.

  • Chugga Chugga: The Kansas City Northern Railroad is a half-mile train ride that has been providing rides to local families since 1992. The track is located at 6060 NW Waukomis Dr. in the Northland, and offers weekend rides from May through October.

  • On Track: The expansion will add two bridges, 1500 feet of track (already laid), and picnic grounds. The nonprofit is currently fundraising to complete the expansion, and looking to raise another $30,000 to match a $125,000 grant from local philanthropist Frank Thompson.
