⛲️ Celebrate the 816

A Day for KC: The official 816 Day celebration was founded in 2017 by Bizzy Benton after a viral Facebook post asking why KC didn't have its own day. The simple question sparked the KC Where You At?? Facebook group now boasts 47,000+ members. 816 Day is an official city day proclaimed by the mayor.

For the Community: Events are happening all weekend long at places like In Good Company, the Rock Island Bridge, Vine Street Brewing, and more. The main event is on Sunday (8/16) inside the Power & Light District, which features live music, food specials, local vendors, and a “Toast to 816” at 8:16pm.

Drinks for Good: PourForCharity™ is a digital pass program that lets you enjoy two complimentary drinks at some of KC's most popular establishments — including The Blue Line, Taps On Main, and Transparent Brewing — while directing a donation to a local charity you personally choose at checkout.

Bottoms Up: One pass gets you two free beers/coffees, and gives real dollars to a local cause you actually care about. Choose to support charities like Hope Faith, Lucky 13 Rescue, Front Porch Rescue, and more. A Brew Pass costs $30, and a Coffee Pass costs $25. No subscriptions. No gimmicks.

Mall Makeover: The proposal includes a four-story, 260-unit apartment building near Dillard's, a four-story, 120-room hotel off 97th Street, two new restaurants, a retail and office building, a new park, and a butterfly garden. The project would also include additional pedestrian connections and a new roundabout on 95th Street.

Cultural Expansion: The most prominent piece of the plan is a major expansion of The Culture House near JCPenney, with conceptual renderings (pictured above) showing theater, conference, and educational space incorporated directly into the mall. This would effectively create a performing arts center anchoring the redevelopment.

🥐 Baking Dreams Come True: After the initial opening date was pushed back, Cornflower Baked Goods opened its doors yesterday in Leawood’s Mission Farms.

🤳 No Phone Zone: A new Kansas law bans handheld phones in school and construction zones starting this week. Warnings will be given through July 2027, then it’s $60 per violation.

📽️ Submit Your Film: Submissions are now open for Kansas City PBS’s Reel Black Film Festival. The film festival will be celebrating its third year in February 2027, during Black History Month.

🏟️ Rock Chalk, On Track: David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium's $450 million renovation remains on track to finish by 2027. Capacity drops to the low 30,000s this season, with the full 43,000-seat build-out arriving next year.
