Five Coffee Shops to Expect in 2026

Current State Roasting Co.

There’s just something exciting about a new coffee shop opening in your neighborhood. Whether it’s for the coffee, the baked goods, a new place to gather, or just the vibes, coffee shops are good for communities!

Here are five that are coming in 2026 that we have our eye on:

  • Current State Coffee Roasting - 11217 Johnson Dr, Shawnee, KS 66203

    • The trio of Josh Greenlee (Seleno Coffee), Nick Robertson (Messenger Coffee Co.), and David Weber will open the new roastery and European-style cafe in downtown Shawnee. Expected early 2026.

  • Veil Cafe - 800 Broadway Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64105

    • A Mexican-inspired cafe in the Harvey Dutton Lofts in the Garment District in downtown KCMO. Expected soon(ish).

  • Janssen’s House Coffee - 4041 Broadway St, Kansas City, MO 64111

    • Janssen’s House will be one of the only (if not THE only) coffee shops in America to serve coffee grown, roasted, and shipped by themselves at a family farm in Huila, Colombia. Expected early 2026.

  • Mocha Point Yemeni Coffee - 8641 W 135 St, Overland Park, KS 66223

    • Kansas City’s first Yemeni coffee shop will be family-owned and stay open late: 10pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends. Expected January 2026.

  • Cornflower Baked Goods - 10555 Mission Road, Leawood, KS 66206

    • A new bakery and coffee shop from Megan Garrelts (Rye) will open just next door to Rye Leawood in Mission Farms. Expected spring 2026.
