Vibes are at an all-time high around here, because we’ve revamped our coffee shop guide for 2025!

This guide feature 20 of our favorite shops across the entire metro, and now includes an interactive Google map to help you navigate your way to each shop.

The AdventHealth Championship Tees Off at Blue Hills CC

The AdventHealth Championship, a PGA Tour-sanctioned event on the Korn Ferry Tour, tees off tomorrow at Blue Hills Country Club.

• Par for the Course: Although golf events have been happening since Monday (including the Pro-Am tournament happening today), Round 1 of the Championship tees off tomorrow (5/14) at 6:45am. The tournament has been played at Blue Hills Country Club in South Kansas City since 2009.

• Hometown Hero: The tournament lasts throughout the weekend, with a variety events and themed-days planned, including Family Day on Saturday. Hopefully this year’s tournament has the same dramatic effect as last year’s, when Overland Park-native Harry Higgs holed out for eagle on the 72nd hole to force a playoff.

New Upscale Mexican Restaurant Coming to Leawood

A new upscale Mexican dining spot called Lapez Mod Mex is coming soon to Leawood’s Park Place. as the Tilford brothers transform the former Session Taco space into Lapez Mod Mex, set to open this summer.

• Buenos Días, Brothers: The new concept is led by brothers Adam and Jason Tilford, who initially opened Mission Taco in the space at 11563 Ash St. (before rebranding as Session Taco) After trademark issues led to Session Taco’s closure, the Tilford’s are reimagining a “destination Mexican spot” with a focus on knife-and-fork entrees rather than casual tacos.

• Modern Fare: Lapez Mod Mex will offer sophisticated dishes such as shrimp al pastor, chile-braised short ribs, and blue corn sopes with duck confit. The decor and layout will be updated to match the elevated menu, echoing the Tilfords’ previous award-winning Milagro Modern Mexican restaurant in St. Louis.

KC Folk Fest Returns to Washington Square Park This Weekend

KC Folk Fest returns to Washington Square Park in downtown KCMO this Saturday from 11am-8pm.

• Funky Folk: The event will feature 15+ musical acts across three stages, food trucks, a craft market, local art, and workshops. KC Folk Fest is a “pack it in, pack it out” event, meaning organizers encourage attendees to leave Washington Square Park better than they found it prior to the event!

• That’s All, Folks: KC Folk Fest is an independent non-profit incorporated in January 2022, that celebrates the music and arts of our neighborhoods, region and beyond.

Admission to KC Folk Fest is FREE and all ages are encouraged to attend.

• 🎄 Christmas Football: The NFL announced that the Chiefs will host the Denver Broncos for a Christmas Day game this year. The game will kickoff at 7:15pm and air on Amazon Prime Video.

• 🚀 Ready to Launch: The Wyandotte County Planning Commission approved an Amazon drone launch pad to KCK. This is the first step to brining Amazon Prime Air to the KC metro.

• 🍩 Waldo-nuts: Le Donuts & Coffee will open next Monday, May 19th at 8017 State Line Road in Waldo, replacing the former Rainbow China restaurant.

• 🇬🇷 Return of the Greek: After the closure of both metro locations six months ago with an uncertain future, Nick the Greek will reopen both locations along with a new one in Lee’s Summit.

• 📣 Lead the Call: KC Current Fans and Ted Lasso costars Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt took in a match at CPKC Stadium this past weekend, while leading the “KC BABY” chant.
