The Nelson-Atkins is Seeking Architects for a $170M Expansion
The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art launched a campaign for an international design competition to find an architect for a $170 million expansion.
Global Design: The competition is being organized by Malcom Reading Consultants, a group that specializes in international architecture competitions. Architects will be asked to design an addition of roughly 61,000 square feet and a part-renovation of the original Nelson-Atkins Museum.
Local Institution: The competition is open to local, national, and international architecture firms. First-stage responses are due by October 29th, with five finalists being selected for a public exhibition of design concepts in the spring of 2025. The project will be funded entirely by private donations.

Buffalo State Pizza is Moving in Downtown Overland Park
But don’t worry, they aren’t moving far. The New York-style pizza joint will relocate just a half-block down the road to 7932 Santa Fe Drive.
Down the Road: With their current lease at 7901 Santa Fe Drive expiring next year, the team purchased the 6,423-square-foot building just down the street. The new space will allow for a full-service bar, space for private parties, a dedicated carry-out and pick-up area, and a stage for live music.
Crowdfunded Pies: With the purchase of the building complete, Buffalo State is turning to the community to raise $400,000 for the build-out. They have launched a crowdfunding campaign through Honeycomb Credit where the public can invest in the campaign and share in the business's success.
Buffalo State plans to open in the summer of 2025.

When Will Peak Fall Foliage Reach Kansas City? 🍁
Fall is officially here, which means the changing of the leaves is right around the corner in the Kansas City metro.
Nature’s Show: According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, peak fall color in Missouri comes in mid-October, depending on weather. Both Missouri and Kansas are rich with maple, ash, hickory, and oak trees, which provide rich orange and yellow colors.
Falling For You: As of today, October 3rd, the KC metro should be seeing “minimal change” in fall foliage. According to the 2024 prediction maps (linked below), we should be reaching peak fall foliage around October 31st. Get ready for a scenic night of trick-or-treating!

The Royals Are Moving On to the ALDS!
There’s just something about October Baseball. The Royals are moving on to the ALDS after defeating the Baltimore Orioles last night!
The Boys are Back: The Royals continue a historic turnaround after finishing with a franchise-record 106 losses last season. The #5 seeded Boys in Blue made quick work of the #4 seed Orioles by sweeping the best-of-three series.
Yanks on Deck: The Royals will now travel to New York to take on the AL #1 seed Yankees. Game one is set for this Saturday (10/5) at 5:38 pm. For the first time since 2015, Kauffman Stadium will host postseason baseball, with game three coming to Kansas City on 10/9.
Can we just take a moment to realize how lucky we are as Kansas City sports fans to have both Patrick Mahomes and Bobby Witt Jr. playing in our city at the same time? Soak it in!
