Dear Donna Set to Open in Columbus Park
After a soft opening this past weekend, Dear Donna is ready to open its doors in Columbus Park tomorrow (Thursday).
Dear Donna, We’re Hungry: Dear Donna is helmed by husband-and-wife chefs Johnny and Helen Jo Leach, known for their award-winning culinary work at The Town Company inside Hotel Kansas City. The restaurant is named after Johnny's mother, and is designed to be a warm, neighborhood gathering place for friends and families inside the former Happy Gillis space.
Brunch-Friendly: The menu focuses on breakfast and lunch-friendly offerings, served Thursday through Sunday from 10am to 3pm. Dear Donna is walk-in only with no reservations or to-go orders. They hope to soon expand into a nearby garage space to provide sundries, coffee, pastries, and grab and go items.
Dear Donna is located at 549 Gillis St. in Columbus Park.

Development
New Renderings for the Roy Blunt Luminary Park
We have new renderings of the upcoming Roy Blunt Luminary Park, which is expected to begin construction this summer in downtown Kansas City.
Cap or No Cap: The proposed 6-acre deck park stretching over I-670 in downtown KC was first proposed in 2022, and was dubbed the South Loop Project at the time. It has since faced numerous delays, and even with construction slated to begin this summer, the project has received recent criticism from the City Council.
Park & Play: Designed by landscape architecture firm OJB, the park would bridge the Central Business District and the Crossroads Arts District, stretching four blocks between the KC Convention Center and the Power & Light District. Planned amenities include an events lawn, public art, ornamental gardens, a performance pavilion, a dog park, and more. It would resemble Klyde Warren Park in Dallas, TX.
See the new renderings from OJB HERE.

Sports
CPKC Stadium Named 2025 Sports Field of the Year
Teal + Green might be our new favorite color combo. The Sports Field Managers Association (SFMA) has named CPKC Stadium a 2025 Professional Sports Field of the Year.
Perfect Pitch: CPKC Stadium is just the third NWSL stadium to be recognized by SFMA, and the award was earned by a women-led field management team; the first to receive the distinction in professional soccer. Across all major U.S. pro sports, women-led field management teams remain rare, with KC being one of just five organizations nationwide.
Teal & Green: The pitch uses advanced LED grow lighting from SGL, making it the first venue in North America to implement the system. It also features hydronic undersoil heating, sub-surface aeration, in-ground sensors, and an engineered drainage foundation to maintain elite playing conditions year-round.
See the pitch in person at the Current’s 2026 home opener this Saturday, March 14th at 3pm.
