SW19 Pickleball Set to Host The Kansas City Border Battle

SW19 Tennis and Pickleball

The Kansas City Border Battle will crown some of the best amateur pickleball players in Kansas City on December 14-15.

  • Bracket Busters: The tournament is put on by the Amateur Pickleball Association (AMA) and is open to players with a DUPR rating of 2.5-5.0. All teams/players will compete in a minimum of five games, with formats dependent on attendance, but its expected to follow round robin match play followed by bracket play.

  • Dinkin’ Around: Pickleball has exploded in popularity over the past few years, both at the professional level and the amateur level. The APA had just over 2,000 players registered in 2022, to nearly 10,000 in 2023. SW19 Tennis and Pickleball is one of many facilities across the metro open to play one of the countries fastest-growing sports.

The Current Are Semifinal Bound!

KC Current

The Kansas City Current defeated the North Carolina Courage on Saturday to advance to the NWSL semifinals.

  • Teal Time: The Current took down the Courage 1-0 in the first-ever home playoff match for both the Kansas City franchise and CPKC Stadium. The lone goal of the match came early, with Temwa Chawinga scoring her first-ever postseason goal and 24th of the season.

  • Up Next: The Current now head to the NWSL semifinals, where they will take on the Orlando Pride next Sunday (11/17) at 2 pm at Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando, Florida. The Current and Pride met twice during the regular season, one resulting in a 0-0 draw and the other a 2-1 Pride victory.

FYI: for those not planning a trip to Orlando next weekend, the game will be broadcast nationally on ABC.

The Monarchs Ball to Honor 2024 Hall of Game Inductees

Negro Leagues Baseball Museum

The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum is set to host The Monarchs Ball: Celebrating Kansas City’s Black Baseball Royalty.

  • Honoring Legends: The ceremony will honor the 2024 “Hall of Game” inductees: John Mayberry, Hal McRae, Amos Otis, Frank White, and Willie Wilson. It will take place at the Starlight Theater this Saturday night (11/16) at 8 pm.

  • 100 Years of Ball: This is the final event of the yearlong celebration of the 100-year anniversary of the Kansas City Monarchs winning the inaugural Negro Leagues World Series in 1924. The event will be emceed by Emmy Award-winner and Royals broadcaster Joel Goldberg.
