Donkey Diet: The café is celebrating its grand opening today from 11am-2pm in the Fairway Shops at 2812 W. 53rd St. Open daily, the café will offer organic, cold-pressed juices, nutrient-packed snacks, smoothies, and a better-for-you grab-and-go section.

Farm to Fridge: All grab-and-go products are made in-house at Zen Donkey Farms’ production farm HQ in Lone Jack, MO. The shop will also feature cruelty-free wellness goods, local kombucha on tap, and handcrafted goods from select partner brands. A portion of all proceeds supports donkey rescue and healing initiatives through their nonprofit, Zen Donkey Experience (ZDx).

Southwest to Midwest: American Way Smokehouse is officially open at 17710 E. 39th St. S in Independence. The Chandler, AZ-based BBQ spot opened its doors to a line of people waiting to try their meats on August 1st. Can Arizona BBQ hold up to KC BBQ? That’s for you to decide.

Village People: The menu at American Way is highlighted by their Smokehouse Sandwiches: Smoked Tri-Tip, The Market Dip, Smoked Pastrami, and more. They also offer classic BBQ meats like ribs, brisket, chicken, and burnt ends.

NYC-KC-LA: The proposed 72-hour route would connect New York City to Los Angeles and aims to be operational by May 10th, 2026. The plan is backed by AmeriStarRail and has been presented to Amtrak, also known as the National Railroad Passenger Corporation. The route would be privately funded through its partnerships.

On the Rails: According to the proposed plan, Kansas City would serve as a key station along the Transcontinental Chief route. To the east, a station would be located in La Plata, MO. To the West, stations would be located in Lawrence, Topeka, Newton, Hutchinson, Dodge City, and Garden City, KS.

Show Me: The Missouri State Fair has called Sedalia home since its inception in 1901, and welcomes roughly 350,000 visitors each year. The annual event celebrates and promotes excellence in Missouri agriculture and its role in the state’s economy. This year’s fair runs from today, August 7th through Sunday, August 17th.

On the Grandstand: In addition to livestock shows and agricultural exhibits, the fair welcomes a huge variety of entertainment, including a massive carnival, truck/tractor pulls, rodeos, live music, and more. The grandstand features musical performances daily, including shows by Wynonna Judd, John Pardi, Flo Rida, Josiah Queen, and more.

🚙 Playing Tag: A recently passed Senate bill in Missouri (SB28) is getting rid of temporary license plates. Instead of waiting for 30 days to pay sales tax, Missouri buyers will pay taxes when they purchase the car, and get a temporary paper copy of their license plate.

🏗️ Higher & Higher: The Kansas City Council will soon review an ordinance that would lift height restrictions on the former Nordstrom site on the Country Club Plaza. Currently, no building can be built taller than 130 feet.
