A Women's Boutique With a Secret Speakeasy is Opening Soon in Downtown OP

Heddi Monro

Heddi Monro and its hidden cocktail bar The Dressing Room are opening next weekend, May 14-16, in downtown Overland Park

  • Two Concepts, One Door: Heddi Monro is a curated women's boutique focused on distinct, limited-quantity pieces like dresses, blazers, handbags, and more. Hidden behind a curtain designed to look like a dressing room entrance is The Dressing Room, an intimate speakeasy offering a menu of craft cocktails, mocktails, wines, and shareable plates.

  • Boss Babes: Co-owners Christa Johnson and Meghan Dudek designed both concepts as a space for women to shop, network, and connect over a quality cocktail. Boutique hours are 11am to 11pm, Monday through Saturday, and 11am to 4pm on Sunday. The bar is open at 4p-11pm Tuesday through Saturday.

Heddi Monro and The Dressing Room can be found on the ground level of the InterUrban Lofts at 7900 Conser St., Suite 20.

A Tuscan Sandwich Shop is Coming to 39th St.

KC Daily

Panino Divino, Italian for "divine sandwich", is set to open in July at 1721 W. 39th St. in the former Gilhouly's space.

  • Tuscan Tastes: Owner Joe Amigoni is recreating the style of traditional Tuscan bars, where a fenced patio and a restored street-facing wine window let passersby ring a bell and order a glass of wine, spritz, or Italian cocktail without stepping inside. The 1,400-square-foot space seats about 32 indoors and 20 on the patio. The menu centers on panini, wine, spritzes, and Italian cocktails.

  • Florence→KC: Amigoni and his family launched Amigoni Urban Winery in the West Bottoms back in 2006, and Joe is one of the winemakers. Panino Divino is his first solo concept, and he's planning a July opening after the World Cup wraps up.

The Historic Boone Theater Has Reopened at 18th and Vine

Boone Theater

After more than 50 years of dormancy, the historic Boone Theater at 18th and Vine officially reopened last Friday.

  • Century of History: The building first opened in 1924 as the New Rialto, a movie and vaudeville house. It was renamed in the early 1930s to honor John William "Blind" Boone, a Black ragtime pianist whose music helped lay the foundation for Kansas City jazz, before falling into decades of disrepair. Now, after an $8.7 million renovation led by the Vine Street Collaborative, the theater is home to the Black Movie Hall of Fame, the Black Repertory Theatre of Kansas City, music studios, and community-focused spaces.

  • On the Vine: The Boone sits steps from the Gem Theater, the American Jazz Museum, and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, and its reopening comes as the broader Revive the Vine initiative continues to transform the district. The 18th Street Pedestrian Mall is nearing completion, with a ribbon-cutting set for May 27th.

The Boone Theater is located at 1701 E. 18th St.
