A Golden Opportunity

KC Daily
The Golden Scoop, a coffee and ice cream shop that employs people with developmental disabilities, received a $50,000 grant to open a second location.
Golden Opportunity: The Golden Scoop is currently open in the Nall Hills shopping center, and had been looking for additional funding to help open new locations and employ up to 25 more “super scoopers”.
More Communities: Thanks to a recent $50,000 grant Thursday from Arcare, a disability advocacy group, The Golden Scoop will now be able to open a new location in Independence.
Scoop With A Purpose: Since 2018, the company has envisioned a world where people with special needs are set up for success and belong to a community where everyone’s gifts are valued.
To learn more about the Golden Scoop or donate yourself, visit their website here. You can visit their first location at 95th and Nall Wednesday through Saturday from 8 am to 7 pm and Sundays from 1-5 pm.

Atomic Cowboy Goes for Two

Atomic Cowboy
Atomic Cowboy, the Denver-based biscuit/pizza-bar restaurant, is opening a new two-in-one restaurant in Overland Park.
2-In-1: Atomic Cowboy’s first location in Westport combines two restaurants. In the morning, they daylight as Denver Biscuit Co, serving a wide array of biscuit options sweet and savory. In the afternoons and evenings, they moonlight as Fat Sully’s, a pizza joint serving gargantuan-sized slices.
Dive In: Starting as a dive bar in Denver, the owners took advantage of their dough-based recipes and turned them into a successful chain, laying roots in KC in 2020.
Take Your Pick: While the menu is sure to cater to your tastes depending on the time of day, we recommend the Franklin biscuit, a large slice of NY-style ‘za, and the award-winning Lights Out Burger.
The new location will be on the southwest corner of 80th and Metcalf and will be open in November. Until then, you can visit the Westport location every day of the week starting at 7 am and closing at 10 pm on weekdays and 12 and midnight on weekends.

Tupelo Honey: Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen & Bar is a new-to-market restaurant concept that offers scratch-made, responsibly sourced dishes, and craft cocktails.
