Happy 816 Day!

KC Daily
Happy 816 Day to those who celebrate! 816 Day (get it, August 16th) is a day to celebrate all things KCMO in honor of the 816 area code.
History: 816 Day dates back to 2017, when former Mayor Sly James declared it a city-wide holiday where residents are encouraged to wear their KC gear and go celebrate by doing something they love in the city. Don’t worry Kansans, if we can both cheer for Sporting, we can both celebrate 816 Day.
Celebrations: If you’re looking to join a group for the celebration, you could head to the City Market for Art In The Loop musical performances or pop over to J. Rieger Co’s celebration for music, local vendors, and $8.16 specials starting at 5 pm.
Want A Little More Challenge?: If you’re unsure where to go first, may we suggest the 816 Day Scavenger Bingo? Depending on how many squares you cross out, you could win $100 gift cards or a KC staycation during Irish Fest. To claim your prize, you must attend the Art In The Loop Celebration.
No matter how you celebrate 816 Day, we hope you find yourself enjoying living in this city just as much as we do. So wear your best KC gear tomorrow and give a toast to our beloved Kansas City.

The Taco Corner That’s Becoming a Phenomenon

KC Daily
Welcome to 18th and Central in Kansas City, Kansas, where an unassuming corner has transformed into an unexpected hub of commerce, where food trucks, vendors, and community spirit thrive.
Cultural Hub: Thanks to the lively atmosphere of food truck generators and norteño music, the corner of 18th Street and Central Avenue is reminding locals of Mexican Street fairs where food and culture mix.
Slow Start, Fast Momentum: The corner started small with just a handful of places like La Casa Del Hotdog, but slowly after word spread that spaces were easy to obtain and maintain legally, thanks to relaxed standards from 2020 aimed at outdoor dining options, the corner is now filled with food trucks every day of the week.
Tacos Every Day: Now, the Central Avenue Betterment Association has leveraged the spot to bring the community together. On Saturdays, the CABA hosts La Placita, a weekly gathering off Central that offers food and entertainment that continues to highlight the area’s rapid growth.
The next La Placita will take place at Bethany Park off Central this Saturday. You can also visit the corner any day to see the cultural event yourself. For more information, check out this article from the KC Star.
