Western Auto Sign to Relight Permanently Starting Tonight

KC Yesterday
After remaining dark for over a year, the Western Auto Sign in the Crossroads is expected to light permanently starting tonight.
Here’s Your Sign: According to an announcement on social media from KCMO Mayor Quinton Lucas, the iconic sign will relight tonight at 9pm. This comes after extensive renovations to the sign, and the lighting is expected to be permanent.
Dark to Light: The sign has been dark since July of 2025, due to broken bulbs and other costly repairs & maintenance. The hope was to have the sign repaired before the World Cup in June, but that timeline was pushed back. The sign remained dark from 2000 to 2018, so this period of darkness was much shorter.
The Western Auto Sign sits on the rooftop of the Western Auto Lofts at 2107 Grand Boulevard.
