Chef J BBQ to Open KC’s First Traditional Outdoor Smokehouse

Chef J BBQ

Chef J BBQ announced it will open Kansas City’s first traditional outdoor smokehouse in North Kansas City later this year.

  • Where There’s Smoke…: The 1,400 sq. ft. open smokehouse will face a 4,000 sq. ft. patio, where guests can watch pitmasters tend custom-built offset smokers up close. Meats are cooked low and slow for up to 18 hours, and the scratch kitchen will feature a bread and pastry program built around owner Justin Easterwood's grandmother's recipes.

  • Midwest-Texas Style: The new location will be located at 1900 Clay St., offering a market-style, order-and-dine-in setup unlike anything else in Kansas City. Chef J opened its original location in the West Bottoms in 2020, winning multiple awards including the #1 BBQ Spot in Kansas City in 2023 (Kansas City Magazine) as well as 2022 highlight in Texas Monthly.

An early summer 2026 opening is expected, just in time for the World Cup!

Brookside's St. Patrick's Warm-Up Parade Returns March 14th

Brookside KC

The 44th Annual Brookside St. Patrick's Warm-Up Parade returns this Saturday, March 14th at 2pm.

  • Pinch Me, I’m from Brookside: The parade starts at 65th & Wornall, heads north to 63rd St., east to Main, south to Meyer Blvd., then west on Meyer to Brookside Rd. Expect Irish dancers, bagpipers, bands, drill teams, floats, antique cars, and plenty of dogs marching through the neighborhood.

  • Going for Gold: The theme this year is Leprechaun Cup, a nod to Kansas City’s big soccer summer coming up. Sporting KC legend and lifelong Brookside fan Graham Zusi will serve as Grand Marshal. After the parade, try out Zusi’s Brookside agenda: an Americano at The Roasterie, sitting on the patio at Bella Napoli, or walking/biking the Trolley Track Trail.

The parade is free and open to the public. Get all the details HERE.
