Sierra BBQ Opens TODAY in Lenexa!
The owners of Lenexa’s Sierra Grill are celebrating the grand opening of Sierra BBQ at 11099 Lackman Road today at 11 am.
I Know That Spot: The location will seem familiar to Sierra Grill fans, as it was the restaurant’s original location from 2017 until 2023 when it relocated to 8659 Penrose Lane at Lenexa City Center. Executive Chef Ryan Edwards kept the old space, which will now be his newest venture: Sierra BBQ.
Sierra Smoke: Sierra BBQ will be a more casual concept specializing in wood-fired barbecue. The menu will consist of Kansas City BBQ classics such as ribs, pulled pork, smoked sausages, burnt ends, and homestyle sides.
Sierra BBQ will be open from 11-7 on Tuesdays through Saturdays.
Development
The Historic Boone Theater at 18th and Vine to be Revitalized
The historic Boone Theater in the heart of the 18th and Vine District will soon receive new life.
Long History: The 45,000-square-foot building at 18th and Highland (across the street from the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum) originally opened in 1924 as the New Rialto Theater. The building has had various uses throughout the years but has sat vacant since 1970.
Back in Business: A group called The Vine Street Collaborative will revive the building and envision creating a space where history meets innovation for local artists, residents, and guests. The Boone Theater will house the Black Movie Hall of Fame, movie theaters, studios, and more once complete.
There is no exact timeline for the project, but officials hope to have it complete prior to the World Cup in 2026.
