Kansas City Roos’ Basketball is Returning Downtown

UMKC Athletics

UMKC and the City of Kansas City announced today that Kansas City Roos Basketball will return to Municipal Auditorium starting in the 2026-27 season.

  • Return to History: The Roos actually launched their Division I era there in 1987 and called it home through 2019 before moving to the on-campus Swinney Center. Now, with Head Coach Mark Turgeon leading the men’s program and the KC Streetcar connecting the Volker campus directly to downtown, the timing feels right. The auditorium will be modernized while preserving its iconic Art Deco design.

  • Hoopin’ & Hoppin’: Beginning this upcoming season, the men’s team will play the entirety of its home games at Municipal Auditorium, while the women's team will play select games at Municipal while continuing to play games on-campus at the Swinney Center.

Make New Connections at Dinner Club in Downtown Overland Park

KC Daily

We’re bringing KC Daily Dinner Club to downtown Overland Park on Thursday, May 28th, and you’re invited!

  • Gather Together: These monthly gatherings pair you with a group of five fellow Kansas Citians based on a 15-question personality quiz. Groups will be matched to have dinner together at a local restaurant based on responses, then all tables will be invited to an all-group gathering afterward for drinks and further connection.

  • Better Dinners: We’re constantly aiming to improve the Dinner Club experience each month. A few things to note:

    • We’re being more diligent in choosing an afterparty location that is friendly for larger groups, and communicating clearly with the bar beforehand. Note: the afterparty is completely optional (but encouraged!)

    • You can now bring +1’s! Guests can be invited when checking out after taking the personality quiz.

    • Unfortunately, life happens, and people need to drop out at the last minute. We do our best to make sure that 6 people are still assigned to tables, but sometimes no-shows happen the day of dinner.

Dinner Club will start at various downtown OP restaurants at 6:30pm on the 28th. Book your seat!

Purina is Making KC's FIFA Fan Festival Pet-Friendly

KC2026

Purina and KC2026 are teaming up to make the FIFA Fan Festival Kansas City one of the most pet-friendly World Cup experiences anywhere!

  • Dog Days of Summer: Bring your pup on June 14, June 21, and July 5 to score a limited-edition, customizable Purina x KC2026 Pet Kit: a one-of-a-kind pet soccer jersey available only on Dog Days (while supplies last). All festival days will feature a stadium-inspired pet booth with free Purina samples, free customizable pet bandanas, and Leap of Paws: an interactive experience where you can compare your jump to different dog and cat breeds and some notable soccer stars.

  • Adopt a New Teammate: Purina is partnering with KC Pet Project to cover $50 per completed pet adoption during the tournament, with a goal of helping 400 area shelter pets find forever homes. The Petfinder Sup(paw)ters Section inside the festival is designed like a stadium trophy room where fans can browse adoptable dogs and scan QR codes to connect directly with shelters.
