Q BBQ Fest KC

The 2023 Q BBQ Fest, Kansas City’s premier BBQ festival, will take place this Friday and Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium.

  • Smoked Meats: the Q BBQ Fest is a weekend-long celebration of all things BBQ featuring live music, professional demonstrations, and some of the area’s best pit masters on display.

  • All You Can Eat: This year’s event will have all food inside free with the purchase of a 3 or 4-hour ticket, with no pay-as-you-go option available. Drinks can be purchased inside as well.

  • Arrowhead Tailgate: Tailgating for the event is encouraged with spots for larger vehicles and RVs available as well because what’s a weekend at Arrowhead without sharing a drink with semi-strangers?

Tickets can still be purchased for the event on their website here with the events starting at 6 pm on Friday and 3 pm on Saturday.

The newly renovated KCI earned its first award since opening, being named the best airport in the country by TravelAwaits.

  • First in Show: TravelAwaits, a travel publication geared towards travelers over 50, ranked KCI as the #1 airport in a user-voted best-of-list, thanks to its stress-free travel and plethora of food and drink options.

  • The Contenders: What may come as a surprise is that KCI beat out plenty of better-known airports including Hartsfield-Jackson in Atlanta and Chicago O’hare.

  • Layover Paradise: Why wouldn’t you expect KCI to make the list? The new renovations not only added better seating and local food options between flights, but the people also seemed to like the glass passenger boarding bridges too.

With KCI being the second fastest growing airport in the country, it certainly seems like the $1.5 billion gamble is paying off for KCI.

Art Brings New Life

The former Attucks School building near 18th and Vine is being repurposed into a new cultural institution, the Zhou B. Art Center.

  • Zhou & Zhou: The redevelopment comes thanks to renowned Chicago artists and brothers ShanZuo Zhou and DaHuang Zhou who were selected by a committee 6 years ago to bring new life and art to the building.

  • Difficult Past: The Attucks School was built in 1905 to serve black students in a segregated school system, and was left empty for the past 15 years.

  • New Life: The Zhou brothers plan to bring their international art expertise to the space, filling it with 45 art studios and hosting events in the 250-seat theater.

The Zhou B. Art Center is planning a grand opening in Spring 2024. To follow updates on the renovation, follow their Instagram.
