If You Build It, They Will Fly

KC Daily

Happy Tuesday, Kansas City! Data was recently released showing which locations are the most popular destinations for KCI travelers since the new terminal opened in February.

  • Feb-June: The list encompasses travel data from the US Department of Transportation for the first 6 months of 2023. You can view the full top 25 here.

  • Broncos or Raiders?: As you may have expected, Denver was the most popular destination out of KCI with Orlando and Las Vegas close behind. Interestingly enough, travel to Seattle saw a major uptick after the new terminal opened.

  • If You Build It, They Will Fly: With the number of direct flights out of KC growing each month, look for new destinations like Austin, Minneapolis, and Fort Lauderdale to jump higher on the list.

Food & Drink

“This Is Tasty, Chef T”

Teetasty Foods

A new Nigerian restaurant, Teetasty Foods, opened last week on Southwest Trafficway.

  • Chasing Dreams: Teetasty Foods opened at 3711 Southwest Trafficway last Friday. Its owner, originally from Nigeria, gave up a successful career in finance to pursue her real passion for cooking.

  • Go Chefs!: Owner and Head Chef, Oluwatobi Temitope Adeleke, derived the name of the restaurant from her nickname Chef T. She said that she decided on the name because people would always say “T, that’s tasty!”

  • What Is Nigerian Food?: The menu consists of mainly West African classics such as jollof rice, samosas, shawarmas, and traditional soups like egusi, ogbono, and efo riro.

Teetasty Foods is open every day except Tuesdays with lunch available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Development

School Is In Session

LocalCode Kansas City

A local woman-owned investment group is looking to redevelop a former school building in Kansas City’s Oak Park neighborhood.

  • School’s Out: LocalCode Kansas City, a local investment group, is seeking to develop the former Sanford B. Ladd School site at 3640 Benton Blvd. The building has been dormant since 2010.

  • A New Home Room: The mixed-use development would completely revitalize the area with a new apartment building, commercial space, parking garage, and common area for tenants to enjoy.

  • East Bound: The Sanford B. Ladd School has long been seen as a sign of disinvestment and inequality in KC’s East Side. Developers hope that the project will further spur development in the Oak Park neighborhood.

After purchasing the building in 2022, LocalCode will look to break ground this summer with an expected completion date in 2025.
