From the Ashes, We Grind: Waterbird Coffee Co. has operated at this location since 2022, but closed in March of 2026. The shop was then purchased by new owners Matt and Adraina Holopirek over the summer, and preparations to reopen have led us to today.

Downtown Drip: Waterbird has partnered with Monett, Missouri-based Foxen Coffee to provide their coffee beans. It will offer a full coffee bar, along with breakfast, brunch, and pastry options.

The Big Screen: Screenings include premieres, iconic sports films, and athlete-led projects. Panels bring together filmmakers, studio executives, athletes, and sports franchises for conversations about the business and art of sports media. Youth screenings, student Q&As, and career-building workshops make it a full community event.

Get Your Pass: The event kicks off on Friday with a cocktail hour, followed by a Friday Night Lights 20th Anniversary Roadshow + After Party at Union Station. Saturday’s programming takes place at four venues throughout the 18th & Vine District. The festival is supported by Visit Missouri, the Missouri Film Office, the Motion Picture Association, and the KC Film Office.

🛍️ Summer Shopping: Lifestyle retailer Anthropologie will open at Bluhawk in Overland Park in the summer of 2027. This will be its third metro location, joining the Country Club Plaza and Town Center Plaza.

🎻 Hey Yo, Yo-Yo: Legendary cellist Yo-Yo Ma headlines the KC Symphony's 2026/27 season on September 30th at Helzberg Hall, performing works by Smetana and Dvořák.

⚾️ Play Ball: The KC City Council approved its $600 million commitment to the Royals' Crown Center ballpark last week, the biggest hurdle cleared yet. The Royals add $760 million, sign a 30-year lease, and will donate $50 million+ to local initiatives.

🎢 Still Waiting: The developer behind the Mattel Adventure Park in Arizona has left the project, but is still pursuing a similar project in Bonner Springs as a part of the Destination KCK project.

🏈 Pablo Sanchez at Arrowhead: The Chiefs are bringing Backyard Football to Arrowhead for Friday's preseason finale vs. Seattle. Gaming stations, themed graphics, and a meet-and-greet with the legendary Pablo Sanchez in the Ford Tailgate District. Muy bien.
