IN Kansas City Magazine

Boulevardia, the annual music festival hosted by Boulevard Brewing Co. returns this Friday at Crown Center.

  • Boulevardia: Starting in 2012, Boulevardia is a local music festival running Friday and Saturday featuring live music and local food and beer.

  • The Lineup: This year’s festival is headlined by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit and the surfer-vibes band Surfaces. For a quick listen to the artists, you can check out this playlist featuring the weekend’s best hits.

  • Tickets: Tickets are still on sale on the website with single-day general admission tickets selling for $50 each. Not a bad deal if you’re planning on seeing up to 7 concerts on the main stage.

No outside food and drinks will be allowed, but there will be plenty of local food trucks and beers available. For all other FAQs, check out their website here.

Development

Greenline Picks Up Steam

Greenline KC

An initial price estimate has been given for the proposed Greenline Trail that would loop around downtown and be modeled after the Beltline Trail in Atlanta, Georgia.

  • The Plan: The proposed Greenline Trail would be a 10-mile walking and biking trail that would loop around downtown going from the Kansas City Terminal tracks on the south, east along The Paseo, north along the riverfront, and west along Beardsley Road. Proponents say it would not only bring more bars and restaurants but also offer more healthy outdoor activities for citizens.

  • The Pricetag: As the cost of construction continues to rise, supporters of the project say that even though the cost would be split into fourths as they finish different sections of the trail, the eventual price tag would be north of $80 million dollars.

  • The Inspiration: The Greenline would draw inspiration from the 22-mile Beltline Trail in Atlanta which not only connects communities in the city that previously were hard to reach but also offers an estimated $10B boost to their economy.

Local supporters have already received $479,000 for the project and are saying that their next step is to seek federal funding for the project in the coming months.

Recreation

Let My People Swim

Jackson County Parks + Rec

Jackson County residents can swim in peace knowing that for the first time in 2 years, Jackson County is fully staffed with lifeguards.

  • Worth the Drive: Despite having to open the beaches slightly behind schedule, Jackson County is pleased with the news that they are able to open swimming at all of their lakes including Blue Springs Lake, Longview Lake, and Lake Jacomo.

  • Staffed at Last: Staffing the local beaches has been a challenge in recent years for JC Parks and Rec. They had to close the beaches in 2021 and open later in the year in 2022 due to the low level of lifeguards.

  • Kudos KSHB: The staffing may come thanks in part to KSHB 41 Action News running this story on the local news about the shortage, leading to a wave of applicants immediately following the story.

For residents looking to for recreation along Jackson County’s lakes this summer, you can find the full list of parks and lakes here.
