Garmin

Happy Tuesday, Kansas City! Two of Kansas City’s large employers landed in the top 10 on Forbes’ list of America’s Best Large Employers.

  • Working 2 to 10: Garmin and The University of Kansas Health System made this year’s list at number 2 and 10 respectively.

  • I 💘 My Job: Forbes compiles the rankings by surveying over 170,000 employees across the country where respondents are asked to rank their employers and if they would recommend others work there as well.

  • Honorable Mentions: Also cracking the list of the top 600 large employers across the country were fellow metro companies H&R Block at 355 and Dairy Farmers Of America at 542.

Answering Our #1 Question

Populous

Early voting is now available for Jackson County’s #1 question about the sales tax benefiting the Chiefs and Royals.

  • Get Out And Vote: Early voting opened Friday for service members serving overseas, while absentee voting will begin today. The main hiccup is that much of the details of the tax bill remain up in the air.

  • Lost In The Mail?: As of Friday afternoon, Jackson County’s legislators still had not received anything beyond an initial letter of intent from the two professional sports teams, but a portion of the funds will certainly be used to build the Royals’ new stadium.

  • Bargaining Chips: This leaves major items such as how much of the new Royals stadium and Truman Sports Complex renovations will fall on the taxpayer, as well as collective bargaining agreements from employees over wages and benefits.

With the current tax benefit set to expire in 2031, this bill would solidify the future of the Chiefs and Royals in Kansas City for the next 40 years.

The Hallmark Of A Good Museum

KC Daily

The Hall Family Foundation has given around $4.5 million to the Nelson-Atkins Museum to fund its photography department.

  • A Picture Says 4.5M Words: The funds, which will be distributed over 3 years, will be used toward staffing, research and travel, acquisitions, and the exhibition and publication program.

  • If These Halls Could Talk: Since the Hall Family Foundation’s initial gift in 2005, the Nelson-Atkins has been able to build a robust photography department that includes over 16,000 photos spanning all forms and periods of the medium.

  • Setting The Backdrop: The Museums’ photography collection was originally built by Hallmark in the 1960s as Keith F. Davis curated the Hallmark Fine Art collections which would later be turned over to the Museum.

The Nelson-Atkins Museum’s photography section can be visited Thursday through Monday each week from 10-5.
