Football Is Back

USA Today Sports

The long wait is finally over, Kansas City! Football officially returns with tonight’s game at Arrowhead between the reigning champs and the Detroit Lions.

  • Early Favorites: Tonight’s game marks the beginning of the 2023 NFL season, and Kansas City is ready! On the field, it appears as though the Chiefs have the upper hand coming in as a nearly 7-point favorite.

  • Stadium Improvements: Arrowhead itself has seen some upgrades since most fans last stepped foot inside. One large improvement is the expedited concessions that will allow fans to simply scan their card, grab what they want, and walk away. Cameras will track what you grab and charge you based on what you grab.

  • Kelce’s Knee: One question mark for tonight’s game is Travis Kelce. He appeared to have hyperextended his knee earlier this week in practice, but may still play. Rest assured, I will still be starting him on my fantasy football team.

For those taking off work early to tailgate, gates will open at 3 pm and parking passes must be purchased in advance. For a full schedule of the evening and details on parking and entrance, check out this article from KMBC News 9.

Music At Its Roots

Ameri’Kana Festival

The Celebrate AMERI’KANA Music & Arts Festival is happening this weekend at Concourse Park in the historic Northeast Neighborhood.

  • Music & Arts: The Celebrate AMERI’KANA Music & Arts Festival is a vibrant day of music that aims to bring together BIPOC musicians from across the metro to celebrate the music they have given American culture.

  • Hit Shuffle: The festival will feature artists performing music across multiple genres like blues, zydeco, gospel, rock ‘n’ roll, jazz, and son jarocho. The mix of music not only is a good time but symbolizes a mixture of sounds that shows how music can celebrate history and point toward an inclusive tomorrow.

  • For The Kids: All proceeds from the festival go toward Art as Mentorship, a local non-profit that empowers young artists to use their art to fuel a better tomorrow for themselves and the world.

The day-long festival is Sunday, September 10th at Concourse Park, located at 200 S Benton Blvd from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The event is free to the public, but you can purchase a VIP ticket with proceeds going towards AAM.
