Kansas Officially Rolls Out Blackout License Plates
Learn how to upgrade your bumper in the state of Kansas
As of July 1st, the Kansas Department of Revenue (DOR) is now offering blackout-style license plates for purchase.
Back in Black: The blackout-style license plate was introduced inside a House Bill in January andw as approved by the KDOR in May. Kansas officials looked at the success of blackout license plates in other states (Iowa, Minnesota, Colorado) and estimates that 30,000 plates will be sold during the first year. The blackout plates join a long list of distinctive license plates offered in Kansas.
How to Get One: Kansas residents interested in getting a blackout-style license plate will need to visit their local county treasurer’s office and pay two fees: a one-time plate fee ($40), an annual royalty fee ($50), along with an optional personalization fee ($45.50).
