KC BBQ Ranks #1 In The US

KC Daily

You can go ahead and call up your friends who think that their city has the best BBQ and tell them their wrong. Lawnstarter definitively ranked KCMO as the #1 BBQ city in America.

  • BBQ Capital: Even if you haven’t done the KC BBQ tour, the experts have spoken and Lawnstarter, a publication focused on leisure and lifestyle, ranked KC as the top city for BBQ in just about every category.

  • The Criteria: Cities were scored on their BBQ culture based on criteria of access, customer satisfaction, competition awards, and elite BBQ memberships. KCMO ranked ahead of other BBQ areas of note like Memphis, Austin, and the Carolinas.

  • KCK Love: In a twist that comes as no surprise to fans of Slaps BBQ, KCK came in ranked 3rd. A strong showing for the metro as a whole.

If you’re hankering for a BBQ festival to try all of the best pitmasters at once, add the American Royal World Series of Barbecue on Sept 27th to your list.

Freedom Hoops And Freedom Day

Freedom Hoops

Freedom Hoops, a local Christian non-profit that provides kids in Kansas City with basketball-focused opportunities, is hosting their annual fireworks stand to fundraise and spread its mission.

  • Freedom Hoops: Founded in 2014, Freedom Hoops uses basketball to reach and transform urban youth through basketball. It currently serves 25 young men on two teams at Brush Creek Community Center.

  • For the Fourth: Running their fireworks stand from June 29 until July 4, the stand gives Freedom Hoops the opportunity not only to raise money for the cause but also to give their kids working experience.

  • Business is Booming: Last year, the stand had over 3,000 customers and could be seen featured on multiple local news stations. You can see a recap of last year’s event here.

Sponsorships for the fireworks stand are still available until they open from June 29th until July 4th at 4001 Mission Road in the Williams Carver Company parking lot.
