KC’s Medieval Real Estate Market

Fox4 News

In one of the more interesting pieces of real estate news we’ve seen in a while, a limestone castle is up for sale near 18th & Vine Jazz District.

  • Medieval KC: The 126-year-old limestone castle is part of a larger piece of land being sold by UrbanAmerica, the minority-owned development firm that owns the Kansas City Workhouse Castle.

  • Security Is A Moat: The Kansas City Workhouse Castle is only one of the more than 10 actual castles within driving distance of Kansas City. Who says all the houses look the same in the Midwest?

  • To The Dungeon: The Workhouse Castle was originally built in 1897 and operated as a city jail until 1924. The building has sadly been abandoned since 1972.

The land that the Workhouse Castle is sitting on is only one block of seven that UrbanAmerica is looking to sell for development in the area.

Roscoe’s Barbeque

Almost one year since its closing, Roscoe’s BBQ is making a comeback by reopening next month.

  • Like Father, Like Son: This January, Roscoe’s owners Roscoe and Mariann Davis, decided to close their Edwardsville BBQ joint after 13 years of operation. While Roscoe and Mariann will continue to enjoy their retirement, their sons will reopen the family business.

  • BBQ Of Brotherly Love: Long known as one of Kansas City’s best-kept BBQ secrets for burnt ends and ribs, brothers, Roscoe III and Nick Davis, are reopening in the same location.

  • You’re Beautiful Just The Way You Are: The brothers do not have any plans to change the menu either. Roscoe’s offers family platters, sandwiches, ribs, and meat by the pound.

No date has been set in January for when Roscoe’s BBQ will return to the same location at 9711 Kaw Drive in Edwardsville. The restaurant will be open Mondays from 11-3 and Tuesdays through Fridays from 11-5.

KPOT

A nationwide Korean BBQ and Hot Pot restaurant is placing its first location in the Northland.

  • Eating Your Weight In Korean BBQ: KPOT Korean BBQ and Hot Pot is an all-you-eat Asian-style Hot Pot restaurant that incorporates Korean BBQ flavors and other international spices. In the last 5 years alone, the chain was able to expand to all 50 states.

  • Northern Charm: Now, KPOT is coming to North Kansas City in a newly developed building which is part of the Metro North Crossing development northeast of U.S. Highway 169 and Barry Road.

  • Bravely Going Before: This will technically be KPOT’s second location in the metro with the chain’s first metro location placed in Overland Park off 135th and Metcalf.

The new KPOT location in the Northland will split space with Third Street Social and is hoping to be completed by next summer. If you just can’t wait to try it, the OP location is open daily from 12-10:30.
