Visualize This: New Country Club Plaza Redevelopment Plans
Last week, Ray Washburne of HP Village Partners Ltd. spoke with the Kansas City Star to share more details about what’s coming to the Country Club Plaza.
Infrastructure: One of the biggest focuses for the redevelopment of the Plaza is improving the infrastructure while maintaining the historic, Spanish-style architecture. Washburne pointed to wider sidewalks, roundabouts at intersections (with fountains), brick streets, redoing facades, roofs, parking structures, and more.
Addition by Subtraction: Washburne also mentioned creating a “barbell” shape, with two restaurant areas connected by retail shops. One of these areas would be called the Paseo District, which would sit on the West side of the Plaza where Gram & Dun and Granfalloon are currently located. Less “junk” retail will be found in the Plaza, creating more room for walkways and pocket parks.
