The KCTV5 Tower Relights Permanently Starting Tonight
Kansas City’s tallest structure, the iconic KCTV5 Tower, will relight again tonight for the first time in over 20 years.
Red Sky: A public lighting ceremony will take place tonight at 9pm to showcase the all-new system of 100 LED projection lights that are able to produce a variety of colors. Testing began earlier this month, showing the tower lit in red, green, and blue.
Vertical History: The 1,042-foot transmission tower was originally built in 1956 and was touted as the second-tallest freestanding structure in the world at the time. Kansas City’s “Eye-full Tower” was taller than the actual Eiffel Tower in Paris, but trailed only the Empire State Building in New York City. The tower has not been consistently lit since 2004.
The tower will now light up nightly, and is located at the intersection of E. 31st St. and Grand Ave.

Holladay Distillery Celebrating 170 Years of Real Missouri Bourbon
September is National Bourbon Heritage Month, and Holladay Distillery in Weston is celebrating nearly 170 years of history.
Old Spirits: Long before Holladay Distillery filled its first bourbon barrel, the land it calls home was already shaping history. In 1804, Lewis and Clark charted the limestone springs that still flow through the property today. Nearly fifty years later, Kentucky native Ben Holladay purchased the land in Weston, Missouri, recognizing the springs’ value for bourbon making. In 1856, he and his brother David distilled their first batch, aging it in an ancient cave that still stands as part of Holladay tours.
Tradition in a Bottle: Nearly 170 years later, Holladay Distillery continues to craft Real Missouri Bourbon using the same limestone spring water, mash bill, and time-honored methods. This September, celebrate National Bourbon Heritage Month with a glass that honors tradition, history, and authenticity, because every day deserves to be a Holladay.
