McLain’s Does It Again (And Again!)

KC Daily

Happy Thursday, Kansas City! McLain’s Market is expanding again with a new location in south Overland Park.

  • Expanding Again: McLain’s announced they will be opening a location in the Stanley neighborhood of Overland Park in late 2023.

  • Follow The North Star: News of the Stanley location comes just a few months after the announcement of the new NKC location. Both locations seem to be on the same opening timeline.

  • New Owners, New Locations: McLain’s Bakery was founded in 1945 and changed hands in 2014. Since then the brand has expanded to 6 locations across the metro.

While no open date has been specified for either location, McLain’s Instagram shows that the restaurants are nearing completion.

Food and Drink

Tacos Are Currentcy

CPKC Stadium

The Kansas City Current has announced the third local vendor going into CPKC Stadium will be Yoli Tortilleria.

  • New Yoli On The Block: Keeping pace with the theme of announcing one vendor per week, the Current announced this week that Yoli Tortilleria will serve guests in the concourse on the southeast corner of the visitor side.

  • Tacos and Tortillas: Yoli will serve tacos made with barbacoa de res and a vegan mushroom tinga as well as totopos with salsa, nachos, and quesadillas

  • Award Winners: Yoli, which opened in 2017, came to prominence this year after winning the James Beard Award for best bakery in the nation for its authentic tortillas.

The Current will announce another partner providing food in the CPKC Stadium concourse next week. If you can’t wait until soccer season, you can try Yoli Tortilleria retail location in Westside.

Development

Gardner’s Growing Season

Brownstone 3 Development

A Topeka-based development group is working on a new 104-acre commercial development in Gardner.

  • Happy Trails: The new $245M dollar development from Brown Stone 3 Development will be called New Trails Crossing which will go up off 175th and I-35.

  • Mixed Use: The new development will include several hotels, restaurants, and retail spaces. So far, 49 acres of the planned space have been purchased.

  • Gardners Growing: This marks the second large development in the area after OP-based Grata’s project, New Trails. Developers are betting big on the area thanks to recent population growth in Gardner and the development of the Panasonic plant in De Soto.

New Trails Crossing will likely begin phase one of construction in the first quarter of 2024.
