Casa Ama Opens Its Doors in Prairie Village

Casa Ama, a new Mexican-inspired kitchen from Robin Krause (Billie’s Grocery), has opened its doors in Prairie Village.

  • Mi Casa, Su Casa: Casa Ama is located at 8228 Mission Road inside of Corinth Square, replacing the former Salty Iguana. The renovated space features whitewashed concrete, wood accents, and greenery throughout, creating a coastal Mexican feel.

  • Coastal Tastes: The fresh, clean menu features small plates, Crudos, tacos, cast iron fajitas, main dishes, and more. It is accompanied by a menu of signature cocktails, wines, beers, and desserts. We taste-tested a few items, including Fried Whole Fish, Pollo en Mole, Flambéed Queso Espinaca, an Oaxacan Old Fashioned, and more. It all passed with flying colors!

Walk-ins are welcome, no reservations needed. Take a look inside!

Holladay Distillery is Turning 170 Later This Year

Holladay Distillery

Holladay Distillery in Weston is celebrating 170 years of continuous operation on December 5th, making it the oldest business in the greater Kansas City area.

  • Sippin’ History: Holladay is also the oldest distillery west of the Mississippi still operating at its original location. The distillery recently completed Rickhouse D, its newest barrel-aging facility, expanding capacity while staying true to traditional ironclad rickhouse construction. The newly named Ed Pechar Event Center was also dedicated this year, honoring longtime McCormick Distilling Co. Chairman Edward A. Pechar for his role in the distillery's modern revival.

  • Worth the Drive: Holladay offers guided distillery tours, bourbon tastings, scenic rickhouses, and a limestone spring once chartered by Lewis and Clark, all just 30 minutes north of KC. With the 170th anniversary celebration on the horizon, as well as National Bourbon Day (June 14) and Father’s Day (June 21) there's never been a better time to make the trip!
