Development
Totally Worth It
After a recent study on economic impact, the South Loop Link project could produce well over $100M than its price tag in economic output.
Great Expectation: The recent economic impact study, which was completed by Utah-based Victus Advisors, found that the South Loop Link could produce up to $335.7 million in total economic output for Kansas City.
Worth It: The project would look to build a 4-block park above Highway 670 connecting downtown and the Crossroads. While the initial $217M price tag of the project has some officials balking, there is significant promise that it would lead to further development of the area, as seen by its predecessor Clyde Warren Park in Dallas.
For The Kids: According to Invictus, the project would produce an estimated $198.2 million in new taxes for the school district, $67.1 million for the city, and $35.4 million for other districts.
Currently, the project is still in the fundraising stage as city officials and developers look to source the capital needed to move forward with the project.
Opening
“Symphony…KC Symphony”
The Kansas City Symphony will be Bond and Beyond: 55 Years of 007, a concert celebrating the iconic music of the James Bond films.
5 Decades of Suave: The KC Symphony, which often does fun, themed concerts, will pay homage to the 5 decades of Bond music spanning 25 films.
Music From 6 Bonds: The concert will feature music from Bond films including "Casino Royale," "Goldfinger," "Diamonds Are Forever" and more.
Drawing Crowds: This is just the latest in a series of concerts from the Symphony that appeal to a wider crowd. Over the last few months, it has performed the music of Led Zeppelin and an accompaniment to Harry Potter.
The concert series begins this evening at 8 pm with 2 more showings over the Saturday and Sunday. Tickets can be purchased via the Kansas City Symphony’s website here.
Development
OP Gets More Dense
Overland Park is transforming with a colossal mixed-use project spanning 74 acres at 175th Street and Pflumm Road, featuring apartments, townhomes, and commercial spaces.
So Much Space: Block Real Estate’s development will add roughly 39 townhomes in the Wolf Run neighborhood, while Hausmann Construction and Development will add 4 more apartment buildings on the property.
Building Commerce: Elsewhere on the massive area being sold by the Schlagel family, developers are planning to add almost 130,000 square feet of retail space that would house businesses in 19 buildings.
You Can’t Do That: The development was initially going to be much more dense, but the Overland Park Planning Commission raised concerns because the initial plans were out of code.
Construction is expected to take 4 to 5 years to complete the project in southwest OP, but the first phase of the project should see new roads and 90 new townhomes beginning construction soon.
