Mr. Mayor Goes To Dallas

KC Daily
Happy Wednesday, Kansas City! Yesterday, Mayor Lucas took a very important business trip to Dallas to look after the future of the Plaza.
Business Trip: Mayor Lucas tweeted out on Monday that he would be making a quick down and back to meet with HP Village Partners, the development firm looking to purchase Country Club Plaza.
Bad Bets: Reports came out earlier this year that the current owners of the plaza were going to default on debt which would put the future of the Plaza in limbo.
So, Whatcha Got?: Yesterday, Mayor Lucas flew down to Dallas to meet the HP Village team, see their current properties including the Highland Park Village, and talk about the long-term future of the Plaza.
HP Village Partners have ties to KC as one of the partner’s wives is a member of the Hunt Family who owns the Chiefs. No sale has officially gone through, but all signs point to HP Village being the next owner of the Plaza.

Beers Beget Beers

Red Sash Brewing
The East Crossroads is seeing its first merger as Red Sash Brewing and Double Shift Brewing are going to be under the same ownership.
I’ll Take It From Beer: After news came out that Double Shift Brewing was ready to call it quits, Red Sash owner Pat Mitchell stepped in to acquire the business.
Staples Of The Neighborhood: Double Shift was one of the first breweries to join the “neigh-brew-hood”, while Red Sash joined in 2020 with a mission of creating a brewery for military veterans and first responders.
Don’t Change The Recipe: Mitchell says he took on the other brewery to preserve the neighborhood’s sense of community. He plans to operate Double Shift mainly the same, offering micro-brews to a diverse community.
Double Shift Brewing Company at 412 East 18th Street is open Wednesday through Sunday, while Red Sash Brewing at 406 East 18th Street is open Thursday through Saturday.

Third & Grandeur

City of Kansas City
This week, construction began on the multimodal transit apartment complex on 3rd and Grand in the River Market.
All Aboard!: The Third & Grand apartment complex is a new development planned for residents to use the KC Streetcar as the main mode of transit.
What’s New: The new development from BNIM features multiple living spaces, several green spaces, a first-floor retail space, a pool, and flexible office spaces.
Getting Your Steps In: While the development is being built, Kansas City residents may need to plan a few more minutes for their commute. The parking lot at 3rd and Grand will remain closed during construction.
The new Third & Grand development hopes to be completed before the KC Streetcar expansion is completed in 2025.
