First Round Value

KC Daily

Happy Tuesday, Kansas City! The numbers are in and hosting the NFL Draft seems to have worked out nicely, generating over $164 Million in economic impact.

  • Spend Money To Make Money: If you have to spend money to make money, KC has the formula down nicely. To host the event, Kansas City pitched in just $3M from the Convention and Tourism Fund. In return, the estimated local and sales tax alone from the weekend created $13M over that sum.

  • More People, More Money: Obviously, any time you can pack an extra 312,000 people into your city, money is going to be made(see Taylor Swift's Eras Tour), but the special thing about this year’s draft is that it smashed the pre-draft estimated $125M by nearly 33%.

  • Budget Busters: The study released by VisitKC showed a breakdown of spending where 60% of direct spending went toward hotels and accommodations, 8% towards business services, 6% on transportation, and 4% on retail and recreation.

The draft will be held next year in Detroit where they’ll surely have a hard time outdoing the record-setting television viewing as well. You can read more about the economic impact of the NFL draft in Kansas City here.
