New Bakery in Mission Farms Targets Spring Opening

Cornflower Baked Goods

Something sweet is blooming in Mission Farms! Cornflower Baked Goods is set to open this spring.

  • Mission: Baked Goods: Megan Garrelts, co-owner and award-winning pastry chef at Rye, will open Cornflower Baked Goods to share the baked goods she loves most: cinnamon rolls, and pies. Garrelts stated that she will introduce a few new recipes, as well as savory bites baked fresh daily.

  • World-Class Pairings: Along with baked goods, Cornflower will serve coffee from Arkansas-based Onyx Coffeee Lab. Onyx was recently named the No. 1 coffee shop in the world, so you couldn’t ask for a better pairing alongside Garrelts’ cinnamon rolls.

Cornflower Baked Goods will be located at 10555 Mission Road, just around the corner from Rye Leawood.

Yemeni Coffee Shops Are Having a Moment in Overland Park

Turath Coffee

Mocha Point Yemeni Coffee Co. recently opened as Kansas City’s first and only Yemeni coffee shop, and now two more are on the way.

  • Yemen→OP: Turath Coffee is set to open soon at 9916 College Blvd in Overland Park, and R Qahwah Cafe will open at 7317 W. 95th St. in Overland Park. Until three weeks ago, there was no place in the KC area to get Yemeni coffee. Soon there will be three within 15 minutes of each other!

  • History in a Mug: Yemeni coffee is among the world's oldest cultivated coffees, grown in terraced mountain highlands in the nation on the south end of the Arabian Peninsula. The coffee is known for its complex, deep fruity flavors.

Until the other two open, get a taste of Yemeni coffee at Mocha Point at 8641 W 135th St.

A Sneak Peek of the ASB GlassFloor at The T-Mobile Center

KC Daily

On Monday night, we were able to get a sneak peek at the ASB GlassFloor inside the T-Mobile Center that will be used for the Big 12 Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments. Here’s just a few of its capabilities, which are all controlled at the touch of an iPad:

  • The ability to replicate home floors of Big 12 teams

  • In-ball sensors track shots/statistics

  • Wearable sensors that track player position and project on-court animations

  • On-floor video, replay, highlights, etc.

  • Immersive mini-games and fan activations

Spoiler: it’s very cool. Check out the videos we took! 👇
