KCMO Releases New Royals Stadium Funding Plan

The Kansas City, Missouri City Council introduced an ordinance yesterday laying out a financing framework for a new Royals stadium at Washington Square Park.
Footing the Bill: According to Mayor Quinton Lucas, the new stadium would be a $1.9 billion investment into downtown, with no new taxes and a 30-year lease. The city would contribute up to $600 million to the project through bonds and other financing sources.
End of the Saga?: The Royals have been chasing a new downtown stadium since 2022, with proposals in the East Village and North Kansas City both falling through. A 2024 voter referendum on a sales tax extension was rejected. The Washington Square Park site has emerged as the most realistic option recently.
The plan calls for the stadium to open by Opening Day 2030, with construction beginning in late 2026 or early 2027.

Royals Release 2026 City Connect Uniforms

The Kansas City Royals will debut their 2026 City Connect uniforms this weekend against the White Sox, and the details are packed with KC love.
Down to the Details: Called "Forever Fountains," the uniforms feature a fuchsia-to-blue gradient nodding to a Midwestern summer sunset and the water flowing through KC's 200+ fountains. The "R" logo draws from the Royals' original 1969 mark, the jersey numbers use the official Kansas City font, and vertical arm stripes symbolize KC's position on the Missouri-Kansas state line.
Check ‘em Out: The Royals will wear the City Connects every Friday home game this season. Promotions tied to the new uniforms include a City Connect flag giveaway for the first 10,000 fans at tonight’s game (4/10), bobblehead giveaways, a beach towel on June 12, a World Cup scarf on June 19, and a crossbody bag on Aug. 21.
