The KC Streetcar Main Street Extension Opens to Riders This Friday
After 3.5 years of construction, the KC Streetcar Main Street Extension opens to riders this Friday, and the city is throwing a party to celebrate!
Next Stop: The Main Street Extension is a 3.5 addition to the current route that adds eight new stops before ending at 51st St. and Brookside Boulevard near UMKC’s campus. The City of Kansas City and the KCATA will host a grand opening ceremony at the Plaza Streetcar Stop this Friday (10/24) at 10am, with the extension opening to the public after the ceremony.
Party on the Track: Friday night from 5-9pm, the UMKC Recreational South Field will host Picnic on the Line: Community Celebration & Drone Show. The event features food & drink, live music, live painting by DINKC, local pop-ups, and a drone show beginning at 7:30pm. The celebration continues on Saturday with Midtown Fall Fest at Murray Davis Park from 12-5pm.
The KC Streetcar is fare-free and emission-free! Find more details about the Main Street Extension HERE.
P.S. Nick here, co-founder of KC Daily. Recently, I vowed to write an entire KC Daily newsletter while on board the KC Streetcar once the extension opened. That day is almost here, and I’m ready to take my office to the track for one day! Good thing the Streetcar has Wi-Fi access. 😉
