A few weeks ago, we asked you what you wanted to see replace Donutology in the River Market Trolley. Hundreds of votes later, and a “Sourdough Sammy Bar” was the clear favorite idea, and that’s (sort of) coming to life:

Opening
A Deli + Bar to Open Inside the River Market Trolley
After Donutology closed up shop inside the River Market Trolley in late July, a brand-new grab-and-go deli + bar concept will take it’s place.
Next Stop: River Market: Car No. 551 plans to open mid-September inside the famed trolley at 426 Delaware St. in the heart of the River Market. The concept will be owned by William Jordan, who has done work on the Trolley in the past and owns two other local concepts: Tasty Unicorn and Fountain City Printing.
Stay All Day: According to Jordan, Car No. 551 will be open 10am-11:30 pm Wednesdays through Sundays. It will offer grab-and-go options, speciality cocktails, and local beers. The space will also be available to rent for events and pop-ups.

Artist Selected for Public Art Commission of Barney Allis Plaza
A Belgian artist duo called Gijs Van Vaerenbergh has been selected for a $2.18 million public art commission at Barney Allis Plaza.
Downtown Destination: The $120 million redevelopment of Barney Allis Plaza kicked off in 2024 with an anticipated opening in 2026. The space aims to provide an active, vibrant green space in the heart of downtown located between 12th and 13th Streets and Wyandotte and Central Streets.
Global Design: Gijs Van Vaerenberg was selected from a list of seven finalists selected from over 250 submissions. Their design is based on the original Kansas City Convention Center that stood on the site before being destroyed by a fire in 1900.
The new Barney Allis Plaza expects to be open before the World Cup in June 2026. Check out all the new renderings HERE.
