Night At The Museum

KC Daily

No, it’s not the Ben Stiller movie. The WWI Memorial and Museum is hosting its largest fundraising gala of the year- Night at the Tower 2023 September 30th.

  • Not Your Average Gala: Intentionally trying to push away from the traditional stuffy gala, the WWI Museum hosts an annual night of fun, live music, cocktails, guest speakers, and more all to raise money for KC’s most iconic museum.

  • Jam Packed: Featuring live music by the KC band Lost Wax and signature cocktails provided by J. Rieger Co, the evening promises to be packed with fun. Watch the 2022 recap if you don’t believe us.

  • Donations: Obviously, the proceeds to the event go towards grounds and museum upkeep throughout the year as well as operational expenses to maintain the nation’s premier museum commemorating WWI.

Tickets for the event start at $200 and can be purchased here. The evening will begin with a VIP hour from 5:30-6:30 pm and the main event running from 6:30-10 pm.

Parlor Gains a New Taqueria

Parlor

Ladybird Taqueria is bringing elevated Tex-Mex flavors to the culinary food hall Parlor in Kansas City's Crossroads Arts District.

  • Lady Bird Landing: Inspired by Austin's culinary scene, Ladybird Taqueria offers a unique concept by Danielle Lee Goldberg, also the owner of Slideshow Sliders at Parlor. The menu features a signature potato taco, candied garlic carnitas, pollo sabroso, and chocolate-filled churros.

  • Long History: The robust menu is inspired by Goldberg’s time cooking in the Austin Food Truck scene. Alongside mixing and matching from the 6 taco options, Ladybird also offers horchata and a chip and salsa trio.

  • Only Yoli: Ladybird sources local ingredients and partners with Yoli Tortilleria, which won a prestigious James Beard Award for the best bakery in the U.S.

Ladybird Taqueria is open now inside Parlor, located in the Crossroads, and is open Tuesday- Wednesday from 11 am-11 pm, Thursday from 11 pm-12 am, Friday-Saturday from 11 am-1 am, and Sunday from 11 am- 11 pm.

Restaurants

Part VII

The Roasterie

The Roasterie is expanding with its seventh café location in the metro, sharing space with UMB Bank near Interstate 435 and State Line Road.

  • Local Growth: The Roasterie, formally a part of FairWave Coffee Collective which also owns local coffee chain Messenger Coffee, is showing dedication to its growth strategy, opening cafés in locations where specialty coffee shops are limited.

  • Open Spaces: The 1,600-square-foot café offers indoor and outdoor seating for up to 22 people, serving signature drinks and grab-and-go snacks including baked goods from Ibis Bakery.

  • Set Back For The Comeback: In 2021, FairWave elected to close 3 Roasterie locations but CEO Dan Trott saw that as a minor setback saying, “We’re doubling down on what the Roasterie can be.”

The new location opened this month and will be open daily from 6 am to 6 pm.
