An Update on the Progress at the Rock Island Bridge

Rock Island Bridge

After a series of delays, progress on the Rock Island Bridge project above the Kansas River is moving along.

  • Flowing Along: According to the Rock Island Bridge team, the bridge is about 85% complete. The city of KCMO has resurfaced and re-striped American Royal Drive with 2-way bike lanes for the Greenline trail, as well as adding parallel parking spaces on both sides of the street.

  • Royal Partnership: The Bridge also announced a long-term partnership with the American Royal, allowing it to host educational activities, celebrations, and other events for the American Royal. The top-deck event space on the bridge will also be named the American Royal Hall and will feature historic imagery of the Royal.
