Story Closes in Prairie Village, Scratch Moves In

Story Restaurant

The story of Story Restaurant has come to an end, but another story is being written within its walls.

  • Scratch That: Neighboring restaurant Scratch Gourmet Kitchen moved into the space on Sunday, nearly tripling its indoor dining capacity. Executive Chef Mitchell Fetterling, a KC native with Michelin Star restaurant experience, will debut a new spring menu alongside an expanded cocktail menu.

  • End of the Story: Story opened in 2011, winning many awards during its 15-year run. Chef Carl Thorne-Thomsen was named a James Beard semifinalist for Best Chef: Midwest twice, as well as Food & Wine’s Best New Chef in 2014.

Scratch will host a grand re-opening celebration on March 5th. Read more about future plans for Scratch from Kansas City Magazine HERE.

Free Admission to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in February

Negro League Baseball Museum

Visitors to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum won't need to pay admission this February, thanks to the Kansas City Royals Foundation covering costs for the entire month in celebration of Black History Month.

  • History 4 Free: This partnership has drawn more than 50,000 visitors to the museum during February since it began, with the Royals Foundation contributing over $435,000 in support of the museum's mission. The initiative encourages more people to visit and learn about the courageous athletes and rich history of the Negro Leagues.

  • Extra Innings: To accommodate anticipated demand, the museum will be open Mondays in February from 10am-5pm (except Presidents' Day, Feb. 16, when hours are 10am-2pm). The NLBM will also open at 9am every Wednesday throughout the month. Regular hours remain Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday noon-5pm.
