Opening

Red Kitchen In The Red Kingdom

Red Kitchen Tamales

Happy Tuesday, Kansas City! Red Kitchen Tamales, a favorite Mexican spot within the Lenexa Public Market, is opening its first brick-and-mortar in Overland Park.

  • 💯: Red Kitchen: Cien por Ciento Mexicana (100% Mexican) is opening in Downtown Overland Park. Red Kitchen’s last day in the Lenexa Public Market will be December 26th.

  • Just Like In La Ciudad: Red Kitchen has grown in popularity thanks to its authentic Mexican dishes like burritos, stacked tostadas, and street tacos. Owner, Alejandra de la Fuente, brings flavors from her upbringing in Mexico City.

  • Good Morning!: An added bonus to the menu comes before lunch. Red Kitchen serves burritos for breakfast with eggs, potato, cheese, and tomatillo sauce as well as chilaquiles.

Red Kitchen: Cien por Ciento Mexicana will open in early 2024. This marks the first time since 2017 that Red Kitchen will not be in the Lenexa Public Market.

Business

Tampa Is Now A Populous City

Tampa Bay Rays

The local Kansas City architecture firm, Populous, has won another bid to design a professional sports stadium, this time in Tampa Bay.

  • Can’t Take The Heat: After the competition pulled its bid earlier this month, Populous won the opportunity to develop the new Tampa Bay Rays $1.3B stadium in the Historic Gas Plant District of St. Petersburg.

  • Kind Of A Big Deal: If you’re unfamiliar with Populous, you should make yourself familiar. Not only is the KC firm responsible for designing the new Royals stadium, but it has done work for 20 stadiums across Major League Baseball. There are 30 teams.

  • KC & Beyond: It’s not just baseball that Populous has made a name for themselves though. The firm gave Kansas City the T-Mobile Center in 2007 and recently won the bid to design the Buffalo Bills’ new football stadium.

Now that Populous has been selected, the firm and the Rays will enter contract negotiations. Tampa Bay has hopes to finish the stadium by 2028.

Awards

KC’s Favorite Quirk

Brewbound

Boulevard Brewery just pulled in a national award, but this time it wasn’t for beer.

  • Grand Champs: Boulevard’s brand of hard seltzers, Quirk, was named the U.S. Open Hard Seltzer Grand National Champion. Boulevard came out on top after nearly 70 brewers entered more than 250 hard seltzers in the competition.

  • The What Open?: The US Open Hard Seltzer Championship is a competition with judges from several countries, held at the U.S. Open Event Center in Oxford, Ohio. Boulevard pulled in 7 medals including 4 golds to pull down the Grand Champion award.

  • Change Can Be Hard: Quirk has risen in popularity over the last several years. With 16 flavors and real fruit juice added it’s no wonder Kansas Citians ditched the Black Cherry White Claw in favor of the hometown brew.

You can pick up Quirk at most places Boulevard is served in the KC area. For any of the sweet Quirk merch, you’ll need to visit the Boulevard Brewery.
