KC Pet Project in Swope Park To Reopen Its Dog Adoption Areas to the Public

KC Pet Project

Beginning Friday, October 24th, KC Pet Project in Swope Park reopens its dog adoption areas to public walk-throughs for the first time since 2020.

  • Meet the Pups: The return coincides with the Petco Love KC MEGAMATCH Pet Adoption Event, offering $25 adoption fees for all animals through Sunday, October 26. The new approach replaces the personalized kiosk system implemented during COVID-19, allowing adopters to walk through kennels and form spontaneous emotional connections with dogs they might not have considered based on photos alone.

  • Four-Legged Love: According to KCPP CEO Kate Meghji, the reopening also benefits shelter dogs by providing brief, positive interactions that reduce stress levels. KC Pet Project's canine team has prepared dogs through positive reinforcement training, and visitors will support this by rewarding dogs with special treats during their visit.

The Downtown Council Re-Imagines Grand Boulevard

KC Daily

The Downtown Council has unveiled the Grand Boulevard Re-imagined Plan to revitalize the historic three-mile corridor from River Market to Crown Center.

  • Repeat History: The plan would aim to transform the area into a destination comparable to Michigan Avenue in Chicago. Grand Boulevard was designated in 1892 as Kansas City's ceremonial boulevard under the City Beautiful Movement, once serving as the city's premier retail destination and widest street.

  • Grand Plan: The comprehensive master plan addresses blighted properties, nuisance businesses, crime, failing infrastructure, and deferred maintenance while creating a walkable, art-filled mixed-use environment with residential development, high-end retail, hotels, and restaurants.
